Keep it up Triggerman. NLindsay May 11, am. Did someone hi jack your computer and write this article? This sucks pop country balls. The song has all the likings of the pop country laundry list. It stereotypes the city and the country cultures. And Triggerman how in the hell could you possibly be okay with the robot Autotuner? My first real let down by you Triggerman.
The Triggerman May 11, pm. If I had never lifted my poison pen against Eric Church to begin with, I probably would never have remarked on this song. But since I have been very harsh to the man, I think it is only fair to give my honest thoughts. IceColdCountry May 11, pm. I agree with Trig and the vibe he is getting. For pop-country to change, it will take time and more than one song. This seems to be part of songs that are a begining to the begining of the end of the end of pop country.
Easy homeboy. Not the best way to do it, but a shot at it. Change the music…same lyrics, I could see many under ground artists cutting this. You give Hank this song, and people on this site would be going nuts about it. Troubadour May 11, pm. I liked the message. Still just pop country though. As for the auto-tuner…not an aberration. He uses that stupid auto-tuner in his live show. Really bad. Caught a little of his show when Hellbound Glory opened for him at the Knit in Reno.
No way I could have sat through his whole show. Jack Williams May 11, pm. Musically, it sounds like Creed with a twang and little banjo thrown in. Outlaw May 11, pm. It sounds like a mid-album, non-single Kid Rock song. This is the second song of his I like.
The other is Lightning. Well written piece and I see your point of view. However, I do not like this song man it just seems awful to me. Just not my cup of tea. Carla May 11, pm. Is this for real? So much so that I actually thought he was hamming it up when I first heard him speak in an interview. Am curious if anyone else thinks maybe Eric is faking it?!? GVFD May 11, pm. This song is awful. This song is trash as much as any Miley Cyrus song. The Triggerman May 12, pm.
This is where we lose the intellectual argument with the mainstream. Just terrible. Lyrics submitted by pharmdoc Log in now to tell us what you think this song means. Create an account with SongMeanings to post comments, submit lyrics, and more.

You were too bad for a little square town, With your hip-hop hat and your pants on the ground, Heard you cussed out mama, pushed daddy around Before you tore off in his car Here you are running these dirty old streets Tattoo on your neck, fake gold on your teeth Got the hood here snowed, but you can't fool me We both know who you are Homeboy, you're gonna wish one day, That you were sittin' on a gate of a truck by the lake With your high school flame on one side, ice cold beer on the other Ain't no shame in a blue collar forty, Little house, little kid, little small town story If you don't ever do anything else for me, Just do this for me brother, Come on home, boy.
I was haulin' this hay to Uncle Joe's farm, Thought of us barefoot kids in the yard, Man, it seems we were just catchin' snakes in the barn Now you're caught up in this mess I could use a little help unloading these bales I could keep you pretty busy with a hammer and nails Ain't a glamorous life but it will keep you outta jail, Not worry us all to death Homeboy, you're gonna wish one day, That you were sittin' on a gate of a truck by the lake With your high school flame on one side, ice cold beer on the other Ain't no shame in a blue collar forty, Little house, little kid, little small town story If you don't ever do anything else for me, just do this for me brother, Come on home, boy, Come on home, boy You can't hold back the hands of time, Mama's goin' grey, and so is daddy's mind I wish you'd come on back and make it all right Before they're called home, boy Homeboy Come on home, boy Homeboy Come on home, boy.

The third and final touch is a spirtual discussion that is brought up, because the parents are ailing and sick. Homeboy is a term that means "friend. He gets involved in drugs and crime. The small town brother urges his brother to "come on home, boy". He knows his brother will one day day regret his choice of crime and "wish one day you were sitting on the bed of a truck I think it's written for all the kids who grow up in a small town and get into the wrong stuff, it's happing to my friends left and right I miss them so bad.

Eric wrote the song for his next album, which he plans to complete in March. Although the title and release date of the album have yet to be chosen, the North Carolina native has long had a very definite idea of the music he wanted to present. To craft those lyrics and sounds, the singer-songwriter spent a month last summer secluded in the woods in his home state.
Although the album isn't finalized, Eric says 'Homeboy' sets the tone for the other richly textured tales on the collection, all set to his unique blend of country-rock.
