What have you done to earn your place in this crowded world? That's the question John Cusack asks as his character Dr. Christie in the hit Amazon series Utopia about a group of comic book fans who learn there's a grand conspiracy hiding in their favorite graphic novel.

Unfortunately not. Dark forces were sent to kill anyone who had seen Utopia, or anyone who may know where Jessica Hyde was. Why did they want Jessica Hyde? We start with the bad news. Amazon canceled the dystopian series after just one season. There is a chance that a few things hit a little close to home. There was the focus on a deadly virus that threatened humanity and a vaccine rollout that turned out to be nothing like it pretended to be.

Was that something we really needed during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic? Of course, there is always a chance that it could be rebooted again at a later date. The timing of the series was certainly to blame for the cancellation. Utopia is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Most sold Amazon books last week: 8 new books enter the list by Alexandria Ingham. It just never had the breakout success envisioned by the streamer, and at that point, given the themes of the material and the current state of the world, the cost just isn't worth it.

Better to invest that money in either a fresh idea or another IP that could catch on with the culture rather than serve up seconds of a meal that no one was all that interested in the first time around. As for Amazon, I wish it hadn't allowed the potential audience for Utopia to busy itself watching The Boys , which also held the focus and attention of the streamer's marketing department, making the Utopia launch something of an afterthought.

The vfx and shots where subpar to say least but the story was compelling enough.
